Chilled Melted Creamy Buns with Monster

Lemon

"Chilled Melted Creamy Buns with Monster Lemon" is a new product in the Family Mart limited series following "Izumo Green Tea" and "Shizuoka Crown Melon," which use ingredients from all over Japan. The refreshingly sour and sweet marmalade made from "Kaiju Lemon," which is characterized by its lumpy shape, and the soft dough filled with melt-in-your-mouth custard cream create a flavor that will blow away the summer heat.

"Monster Lemons" are grown on Ikuchijima Island, located in Onomichi City, Hiroshima Prefecture, in a lemon-growing region where lemons are exposed to the full sun and grow to about two to three times the size of ordinary lemons. The lemons are named "Monster Lemons" because of their rugged shape, and despite their wild appearance, they are high in sugar content and have little bitterness, making them edible right down to the peel. Originally, the lemons grown on Ikuchishima Island had a great taste, but those that were misshapen were sometimes discarded as out of standard or not worth the price.

The company found new value in this situation from an upcycling perspective, and realized the production of lemons that are delicious and safe, even if they are uneven like a monster. The new brand "Kaiju Lemon" was launched. Production is handled by Kataoka Farm and brand production by Setouchi Hyakuso, and their contribution to local industry in line with the SDGs has been recognized in many fields.
