Exciting! Whole chicken

The Skylark Group's first Hawaiian restaurant, "La Ohana," opened in Honmoku, Yokohama last year (2017). After hearing the rumor that you can eat authentic Hawaiian food at a high cost, the editorial department also went to visit.

Then, I was surprised at the quality of the food that transcends the image of family restaurant! I was particularly shocked by the deliciousness of one of the signboard menus, Huli Huli Chicken. I visited on a holiday, but I'm convinced that there are always lines even after noon.

◆ Greetings are "Aloha" and "Mahalo"

It is far from the main station, so it is recommended to go by bus from Motomachi-Chukagai Station or Sakuragicho Station (about 15 to 25 minutes). There is Sankeien Garden nearby, so you may want to stop by while taking a walk.

The clerk's greetings are "Aloha ~! (Hello)" and "Mahalo ~! (Thank you)". The background music that flows through the store is also Hawaiian music, and the atmosphere is open with greenery everywhere.

The atmosphere inside the store is also attractive!

Even at the entrance where there was a waiting line, the staff was properly named and I was relieved at the service. The waiting time on this day is about 15 minutes.

◆ “Whole chicken” that you should definitely eat

The restaurant's recommended menu is Hawaii's North Shore specialty, Huli Huli Chicken (1,480 yen, tax not included, same below). Soft chicks soaked in special spices are baked juicy in the oven. The volume is just right for sharing with two people.

Dodon!

A trolley, sweet and sour sweet chili sauce, and a smooth and rich barbecue sauce are included separately. However, the chicken itself is well seasoned with salt and pepper, so you can eat it as it is.

Cut and gravy overflowing endlessly from the cross-section. It's soft and terrifyingly juicy when eaten. Immediately after the fluffy chewy texture, the umami of the chicken, accented with spices, spreads in your mouth! It's delicious with sauce, but personally it's best to just put it on without adding anything.

Since the whole chicken is baked after ordering, it takes about 25 to 30 minutes to be delivered. Order with plenty of time!

◆ Loco Moco and Ahipoki Don

The rice was also excellent. I ordered "Loco Moco Mexican Sauce" (1,380 yen) and "Salmon Ahipoki Don" (1,180 yen).

Loco moco is rice topped with 100% beef hamburger steak, cheese, and fried egg, and served with minced meat and a sauce full of jalapeno. There are plenty of sides such as french fries, raw vegetables, avocados, and fruits.

The more you chew the hamburger steak, the more the umami of the beef overflows. Accented with spicy Mexican sauce. Cheese, eggs, and avocado mellow the spiciness that comes to your nose. Each bite has a different taste, and it's a fun dish until the end!

On the other hand, the salmon ahipoki bowl is a rice bowl with plenty of vegetables such as lettuce, tomatoes and paprika, and plenty of tuna, salmon and avocado on top of rice. It is seasoned with a sauce that is a blend of soy sauce, sesame oil, and onions.

Melting salmon fat, mellow avocado richness, and tuna umami are wrapped in fragrant sesame oil and are super delicious! With each bite, the appetite for the next bite is cultivated. There is a good amount of rice on the bottom, so it is recommended to mix it from top to bottom.

Colorful taste

I gave up on this day because I was full, but I also recommend Hawaiian pancakes for dessert. It is an original pancake kneaded with taro powder, and it seems that you can enjoy a chewy texture and a taste that is not too sweet.

Next time try pancakes!

On the day I visited, customers were lined up all the time even in the afternoon. It's quite popular despite being far from the station. By the way, the second store is scheduled to open in Hodogaya, so please look forward to it if you are in the neighborhood!
