Its name is "Naruto Kintoki Kaku". It is sold at the confectionery specialty store "Kurio Shoten" using Naruto Kintoki potatoes in the commercial facility "GRANSTA" inside the ticket gate of JR Tokyo Station.
This product is a sweet made by soaking fluffy Naruto Kintoki in honey and drying it. According to the person who introduced me as "Hoshi Imo" at the store, the drying condition is different, but the manufacturing method is close to that of Hoshi Imo.
There are 12 flavors (including limited to stores), from Japanese-style flavors such as "Wasanbon," "kinako," "sesame," and "ume," to Western-style flavors such as "coffee" and "caramel." The price is 756 yen including tax.
I was curious, so I decided to try it. I bought "Wasanbon" and "Yuzu" which are popular number 1 & number 2, respectively.
■ Kaku Wasanbon
This is the most popular. The mellow and tasty high-end sugar "Awawa Sanbonto" is used, and you can enjoy the original taste of Naruto Kintoki.
There are 9 grains in one box, and the size of each grain is about 3 cm in length and width and 2 cm in height. It feels like a bite-sized chocolate.
I was surprised at the light texture when I put it in my mouth with the image of a dry chewy texture. It unravels and spreads a rich sweetness. You can feel the elegant sweetness of honey, but the main character is the sweetness of delicious honey. Firmly fills the mouth with sweetness until the aftertaste.
The part near the surface is soaked with honey and is moist and smooth, while the central part is delicious and has a slightly chewy texture. You can enjoy the change in texture and taste with a single grain, and it looks like a Japanese sweet made.
■ Kaku Yuzu
This is the most popular number 2. The domestic yuzu peel topped on the top gives off a jewel-like sparkle.
When you put it in your mouth, the refreshing scent of yuzu spreads out. As before, the main ingredient is the sweetness of the tightly packed sweets. The sourness and bitterness of the yuzu peel added from the middle stage tightens the sweetness.
"Naruto Kintoki Kaku" adds a playfulness with various flavors and a novelty in a different way from the conventional one, while conveying the deliciousness of the scent straight. The stylish package makes it easy to carry, has a long shelf life (about a month and a half), is reasonably priced, and seems to have a wide range of activities as a souvenir.
Also, it's hard to understand at first glance, so it might be a good idea to give it to someone who eats it for the first time and enjoy the excitement of "what is it?"
In addition, "Naruto Kintoki Kaku" is only available at two Kurio stores in Tokyo Station Gransta and "Iwataya Main Store" in Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
