There are times when you want to eat "Chestnut steamed yokan". I (the author) was just the other day. I already wanted chestnut steamed yokan at the soul level.

Perhaps the cry of my soul arrived, I decided to get a chestnut steamed souvenir from an acquaintance. The moment I took a bite with a light feeling like "lucky" ... I almost fainted at the deliciousness.

It's the first time I've lived for 30 years and have come across such a delicious chestnut steamed yokan! That is Shunkado's "Kurimushi Yokan" (1,188 yen including tax).

It is said that the red bean paste from Hokkaido is steamed together with the domestically produced "new chestnuts" that the craftsmen peeled one by one and carefully soaked in homemade honey for three days. When I measure the length, it's about 16 cm. Perhaps because it contains plenty of chestnuts, when you take it in your hand, you will feel a surprisingly heavy weight.

Golden chestnuts are roughly crushed and kneaded into a slightly reddish brown body like the stars twinkling in the night sky. By the way, each one is handmade, so each one has a pattern of "only one in the world". When you say that, it feels more and more special.

The first thing that surprises me when I eat it is its melting in the mouth. It doesn't have the sticky texture that is typical of yokan and the agar-like smooth mouthfeel (I like that too). The chestnuts are soft and fluffy when chewed. The delicate mouthfeel that crumbles on the tongue is like crystallizing azuki beans and gathering them together again.

And it has an elegant and sophisticated taste. It is not sweet as soon as you eat it, but the simple sweetness of azuki beans that overflows as you chew and the soft sweetness of new chestnuts bring autumn into your mouth. It's so delicious that you'll want to keep it on your tongue forever ...!

What a deep taste

This chestnut yokan is not sold in the suburbs of Tokyo, so the option given to me is to go to Shizuoka prefecture or order it from an online shop to get it. Moreover, I confirmed that the sale is limited to November 30th. In other words, it seems only in autumn. So, even if I live for another 50 years, I wonder if I have a chance to eat this only 50 times ... it's too spicy ...

In my future life, I would like to eat chestnut yokan as much as possible. Please come and experience this taste at least once.
