"Shake Shack" was born in New York, USA. It is a popular hamburger chain that boasts tremendous support mainly from young people and can be lined up. It is scheduled to land in Japan in 2016. There are many fans, and it seems that many people are looking forward to it.

I (the author) is one of them. However, although I've only heard rumors, I haven't actually eaten it. Is there really a line in the first place? Is it so delicious? When I visited the United States, I went to the MADISON SQUARE PARK store, which can be said to be the "starting store".


Madison Square Park stretches from 23rd Street to 26th Street along Fifth Avenue. A quiet park in the middle of the skyscraper district with Union Square nearby. There are children playing with playset and people enjoying a walk, so relaxing time is flowing. A procession that suddenly appears there. This is the Shake Shack procession.

I arrived around 13:15 on weekdays. As you approach the store, chairs and tables are lined up outdoors, and it is crowded with many people. Especially on this sunny and warm day, the shaded seats are full!

When I went around the counter to order, I found a large line. I've heard that Americans don't like to line up, but people are lining up along the way. The number is about 60 people. Apparently, there are many people who seem to have come from other than New York, and there are also tourists from overseas.


Even so, everyone is lined up exactly. The procession goes forward without any major trouble.

I found a menu sign on the way, so check the contents. Of course, the main character of the store is a hamburger. It seems that there are a total of 5 types of hamburgers, such as Shack Burger, which is a signboard menu, and SmokeShack, which is a combination of smoked bacon. In addition, there were four types of hot dogs, which can be said to be the origin of Shaik Shack, French fries on the side menu, shakes and ice cream that are hidden (?) Popular menus, and drinks. In addition, there is a menu for dogs, which is unique to the park.


After all, I was able to order at around 13:40. I was also curious about the limited Park Burger, but for the first time, I simply ordered a shack burger single, french fries, and beer because I couldn't stand the heat. The bill was $ 14.85 (restaurant price ...). It took less than 30 minutes from the start of the line to the end of the order. It might have been smooth for the number of people in line.

After completing the checkout, you will be given a buzzer with the icon burger mark printed on it. It's like a food court. The buzzer sounded in about 10 minutes, and the long-awaited beer ... No, I was able to get a Shake Shack burger.


I got ketchup and mustard near the pick-up counter and miraculously found a seat in the shade of a tree, so I dashed. No, it's too hot to boil. Involuntarily take a bite of beer. Huh.

By the way, the Shake Shack hamburger I met for the first time is not as huge as a so-called gourmet burger, and it is easy to hold with one hand. The buns are combined with cheese, sliced tomatoes, lettuce and sauce, making it very simple. The colorful vegetables are firm and fresh.


I'll get it right away. … What's this, yeah !!! The slightly sweet buns are rare for overseas bread, and they have a soft and gentle mouthfeel. The taste of the meat that exudes from the patty is added to it, and the richness of the cheese and the sauce are also added to create a wonderful harmony. Compared to "The American" tastes such as Burger King and Carl's Jr., who will re-land in Japan this fall, the taste is quite delicate. There is no discomfort, and it seems that it will be more popular in Japan than in the United States. I was worried that my hands became sticky when I had the wrapping paper with low waterproof performance, but the taste was outstanding. It was good to try it side by side.


Crispy and crispy potatoes are cut and fried properly! It tastes like. And what I was secretly impressed with was beer. The beer, named ShackMeister Ale, was made for Shake Shack by Brooklyn Brewery (a brewery in a hot area!). The mouth is dark, but the aftertaste is surprisingly clean, and it goes very well with potatoes rather than hamburgers. I'd be happy if you could release it in Japan, but I think it's difficult. It wasn't in another store, so maybe there are only a limited number of stores.


Shake Shack's burgers, which are captivated by New Yorkers, aren't cheap at $ 5.19 each, but I was convinced that there was a line. There is a reason why the price is so high. The store's melon is "high quality". For example, Patty is particular about "natural" ingredients, such as using 100% US Angus beef that does not use growth hormone or antibiotics.

By the way, in New York, drinking alcohol in public spaces such as parks is prohibited. However, the store has a table in the park, so you can enjoy it like a beer terrace while receiving a pleasant breeze (and too much sunlight). In addition, probably because there are many benches other than the store space, even if there were so many lines, it was not full. If the weather is nice, it may be the most stress-free store to enjoy.


Actually, I went to see other stores during my stay in New York, but the Theater District stores near Times Square are lined up during the day and at midnight. The Upper West Side store was also full, even though it wasn't core time. At John F. Kennedy Airport, there are people looking for hamburgers early in the morning. It seems that "very popular in NY" was true.
