Dorayaki" at Tokiya

Dorayaki, the signature product of Tokiya, is a favorite of Fujiko F. Fujio, the cartoonist and author of Doraemon. It is said that the dorayaki that Doraemon enjoys eating in the movie was modeled after Tokiya's product.

The interior of the store has a retro atmosphere. It was past noon on a weekday, and although it was a little crowded because it was snack time, we were able to take our seats smoothly. I ordered the popular "Dorayaki with fresh cream" and coffee set (830 yen including tax), and an additional small Dorayaki (190 yen including tax).

The iced coffee is also good in a kind of retro style.

I started with a small dorayaki. It was warm to the touch. They warm them up in the microwave for about 20 seconds before serving. I'm glad for that extra step.

The way the skin is closed is like the dorayaki in Doraemon.

The anko (sweet bean paste) that is packed tightly is made of grains. It is mildly sweet and you can feel the presence of the beans. It goes perfectly with the fluffy dough. The taste is so ideal that you can't help but want to hail it as "This is Dorayaki! This is the ideal taste that makes you want to hail it. Even though it's a small size, it's quite large, so even one piece of this is quite satisfying.

Next up was the real deal, the Dorayaki with fresh cream. Branded with "Tokiya", it was a bit larger than the small Dorayaki, and was filled with fresh cream and anko. When I took a bite, I found it to be extremely milky! The milkiness of the fluffy fresh cream spreads out, followed by the elegant sweetness of the anko and the texture of the moist dough. Without any compliments, this is the best dorayaki with fresh cream I've ever had.

Doraemon and Fujiko F. Fujio loved these dorayaki from Tokiya in Shinjuku. It is one of those items that you should always have on hand, just in case a cat-shaped robot pops out of a drawer at home.
