Chocolate Spread Nutella nutella

Chocolate Spread "nutella" Comparison

Nutella " is a chocolate spread that is a specialty of Italy and popular in Japan. Did you know that Nutella sold in Italy and other EU countries and Nutella available in Japan are from different countries of origin? Nutella in Italy comes from Italy, while Nutella in Japan comes from Australia.

When I was looking for souvenirs during my trip to Italy, I was about to skip it, thinking "Nutella is available in Japan, too..." When a friend of mine who lives in Italy told me about it, she also told me about the difference in country of origin. She also knew that Nutella comes from a different country, but she had never tasted both at the same time and was not sure if there was any difference in taste.

So let's compare! So we compared the Nutella we brought back from Italy and the Nutella we bought in Japan. What was the difference?

Italian nutella

Italy's nutella comes in a wide variety of sizes, including some that are quite huge. All containers are made of glass. The smallest one I purchased was 200 grams and cost 2.49 euros (about 300 yen).

nutella in Japan

On the other hand, Japanese nutella (produced in Australia) comes in plastic bottles. I purchased a 350g (12.35oz) package at Seijo Ishii. The price is 659 yen (including tax), which is about 40 yen more per 100g (3.53oz).

The picture on the package, etc. is the same.

Comparing the contents, we can see that the Italian product is slightly darker in color. The mellow aroma of chocolate and hazelnuts is also stronger in the Italian product.

The ingredients are almost the same, but the ratio of skimmed milk powder seems to be different. The ingredients are also slightly different, with the Italian product containing one calorie less per 15 grams.

Comparison of nutella

Let's compare nutella by eating it on toasted bread.

NUTELLA Nutella Comparison
Proof is better than proof! Now it's time to eat!

My impression is that the Italian Nutella is slightly bitter and has a richer hazelnut flavor and rich ness. The Japanese Nutella has a more "foreign" taste, with the hazelnut flavor taking center stage in the gusto of the sweetness. The aroma is also quite weak after smelling the Italian one.

Nutella from Australia. Once it's coated, it looks the same.

If you like sweet chocolate! If you like chocolate and hazelnut flavors and deep richness, then we definitely recommend Italian chocolate! You can enjoy a slightly more mature taste.

However, the difference between the two is only noticeable when you compare them. If you are served only one of them blind, it would be difficult to guess which one you are eating, so it is not so much that you will be disappointed to find out that you have been eating something different.

But if you are a fan of Nutella, I think it is worth eating authentic Italian Nutella. Nutella is available not only in Italy but also in supermarkets in EU countries, so Nutella fans should definitely add it to their souvenirs when they see it in the supermarkets!

As a side note, the "Ferrero Rocher" chocolate grains that can be found in convenience stores are made by the same Ferrero company that produces Nutella. Did you know that? It may be a good idea to buy a set as a souvenir for chocoholics!
