Confectionery shop Niki in Naruto, Tokushima: "Famous Confectionery Naruto-Kintoki

Naruto-kintoki" is a specialty of Tokushima. It is a sweet potato characterized by its strong sweetness and chestnut-like texture.

The confectionery that uses this sweet potato and looks just like it is the "famous confectionery Naruto-Kintoki" made by the Japanese confectionery store "Kaho Niki" in Naruto, Tokushima. The confectionery has won a gold medal at the National Confectionary Exposition, a confectionary festival in Japan.

It is available at this store, souvenir stores in the prefecture, and online stores. The author purchased his copy at the "Japan Department Store Shokuhinkan" in Akihabara, Tokyo, in a pack of five for 540 yen (tax included).

The uniquely designed package is inspired by the cardboard boxes in which Narukinagatoki sweet potatoes are shipped. The yellow box is covered with a hemp rope-like string.


The individual wrappers are also designed to look like newspapers in which baked sweet potatoes might be wrapped. The article casually mentions that the product won an award in a prefectural competition. Elaborate!
