Yahoo employee cafeteria

The Tokyo head office of Yahoo! JAPAN relocated its office from Akasaka to Kioicho. Along with this, we received information that the employee cafeteria was significantly renewed.

Until now, Yahoo's company food has been a novel and mysterious thing that the location is not open to the public and the price changes according to business performance. However, the location of the newly created company food is open to the public, and there is also an area that anyone can use ! Yahoo!

So, I went to the Kioicho office to experience Yahoo's new company food!

All 1 floor company food

There are company meals on the 11th and 17th floors. First, let's take a peek from the 11th floor.

When you get off the elevator, the entire floor is a dining area . This is basically a company food used by people who work at Yahoo.

It's so big that you can see the guide map when you get off the elevator.

There is a food court "BASE" where noodles, rice bowls and set meals are sold, and a cafe "CAMP" where you can enjoy light meals such as bread and buffets sold by weight. The total number of seats is about 800. Since the old company meal had about 200 seats, it was necessary to make a reservation in advance to use it, but it seems that reservation is not necessary for the new company meal because there are plenty of seats.

Surprisingly many menus

This time I decided to have a company meal at BASE. The menu includes two types of set meals, "UNDER 655", which keeps calories within 655 kcal while considering nutritional balance, udon noodles made with the in-store noodle making machine, and unique spices. Original curry etc. are provided.

The menu changes almost every week. There are also plenty of small bowls of side dishes and desserts. By the way, it seems that they are actively incorporating ingredients from the areas affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake as raw materials.

The set meal menu on the day of the interview includes "Big Fried Shrimp" and "White Fish and Fried Tofu Mushroom Ankake", "Menta Cream Udon" from the weekly udon noodles, and "Roast Beef Bowl" which first appeared. In addition, there are also standard menus such as ramen and soba. All of them are made with consideration for calories, salt content, and nutritional balance.

At lunchtime, employees start lining up one after another

I was worried and bought "Roast beef bowl" (980 yen), "Spicy beef curry" (small 430 yen and up), and "Menta cream udon" (520 yen). Furthermore, from the small bowl zone, we have simmered pumpkin (100 yen), green salad (100 yen), and homemade tiramisu (150 yen).

Udon is delicious at the specialty store level

The first thing that surprised me was that udon was delicious at the specialty store level . The noodles are made by boiling the "freshly beaten" noodles made by the noodle making machine in the store, and they are firm and full-fledged!

Meita cream udon that was too delicious and shocked

Menta Cream Udon is made by combining cream soup with plump thick noodles and topped with mentaiko, mizuna, and chopped seaweed. One udon is so voluminous that it fills your mouth, and it has the best chewy texture and smooth throat!

Also, because the surface area of the noodles is large, the trolley and thick menta cream are entwined. When you slurp all the time, the creamy richness and the spicy spiciness of mentaiko spread out, and your mouth is full of happiness! The staff who accompanied me was also impressed, saying, "It's like udon that I ate in Shikoku!"

Beef curry is a popular menu that Yahoo employees have many fans. It is made with an original recipe that contains unique spices.

Plenty of beef flavor!

The beef crumbles in your mouth and the umami overflows. The first mouthfeel is sweet and mellow, but as I continue to eat, my tongue becomes chattering. The spicy, lingering spiciness is addictive.

This makes me want to repeat!

And the new roast beef bowl has thick meat anyway! A number of thick roast beefs are quickly covered on top of the plumply cooked rice. A nice hot spring egg is in the center.

Break the hot spring egg

The meat is thick, but it's moist and fine, and it's crispy and crispy! When you break the hot spring egg and entangle it with the melting yolk and cheek it ... The umami of the meat that exudes as you chew and the richness of the egg create a synergistic effect, and the deliciousness is at its peak!

Moist and juicy roast beef, the best!

The dessert tiramisu is also excellent. When you put it in your mouth, it melts softly and the richness of mascarpone spreads. The bittersweet cocoa powder and the acidity of the cheese tighten the taste and refresh the mouth. It goes well with coffee.

The company food on the 17th floor can be used by outsiders

Then check 17F. This is a coworking space that can be used by people outside the company, and like the 11th floor, there is a cafeteria "BASE17" and a cafe "CAMP17". In other words, the company food on the 17th floor can be eaten by anyone, even outsiders!

On the day of the interview, at BASE17, there are two types of lunch, "Salmon Meuniere and Cocotte Gratin" and "Soft Pork and Chorizo Paella" (680 yen each). At CAMP17, in addition to the abundant bread baked in the store, salads and side dishes with plenty of vegetables and soup buffets (sold by weight) were offered.

A spacious and open atmosphere with large windows shining in the sunlight. You can have a meeting while having lunch or drinking coffee, and Wi-Fi is open for free, which is a nice environment. Even if you're not a nomad worker, you'll want to stop by.

The coworking space including company food and cafe will open on November 1st. Business hours are from 9:00 to 21:00 on weekdays and from 10:00 to 21:00 on Saturdays and Sundays. It seems that you can use it for free until March 2017 (meals are charged), so if you are interested, why not visit?
