The number of people who like to travel alone seems to be on the rise these days. Eating local delicacies, meeting local people, etc... There is no end to the charms of traveling alone, without worrying about anyone else, and just deciding where to go as the wind blows and as the wind blows!
This time, I would like to introduce some excellent gourmet food that I would like to recommend to those who are planning to travel to Kurashiki City, Okayama Prefecture! Even if you don't have any plans, just looking at the photos will stimulate your desire to travel.
Kurashiki Momoko Fruit Parfait
Kurashiki Momoko is located in Kurashiki City's Bikan Historical Quarter, where you can taste Okayama's famous fruits. Parfaits using seasonal fruits are available at each season. From mid-May to early July, you can enjoy the "Early Peach Parfait" (1,620 yen), and from mid-July to mid-September, the "Peach Parfait" (1,296 yen). The "Momoko Parfait" (864 yen), made with Shimizu white peaches in syrup, is also available year-round.
Early Peach Parfait
A parfait consisting of layers of peach financier and gelato, yogurt, milk gelato, custard, and whipped cream. It is topped with a generous amount of fresh peaches.
The rich and tasty gelato and cream are only complemented by the peaches this time. The juice overflowing from the melting fresh peaches is so fresh and sweet that it is almost too good to swallow! It may be hard to find a parfait where you can taste peaches in such a luxurious way.
Another thing that comes to mind when one thinks of summer is watermelon! So we also recommend the "Watermelon Parfait" (864 yen), available from mid-May to late August.
Watermelon Parfait
A combination of rich milk gelato, apricot pudding, watermelon gelato sprinkled with chocolate chips that resemble watermelon seeds, and fresh watermelon cut into rounds. You can fully enjoy the deliciousness of the juicy, squashy watermelon. The meltingly sweet apricots and watermelon also make a perfect match!

Boulangerie mugi, a bakery recommended by locals
Boulangerie Mugi was introduced to us by a local as a "delicious bakery. Mugi is a bakery in the Bikan Historical Quarter that sells natural yeast bread. There is also a café nearby. The bakery offers a wide variety of breads, from hard bread made with French wheat to bread with rye, sweet breads, and meal breads. The aroma of baking wheat bread from the workshop in the back of the store makes you want all of them, but...
This time the author had the "orange peel and cream cheese" (230 yen), the "rye and whole wheat bread with plenty of nuts" (250 yen), and the number one seller, the "walnut" (260 yen).
The orange peel and cream cheese bread has a rich orange aroma as soon as you bite into it. The rich cream cheese envelops your tongue. When heated, the outside is crispy and the inside is soft and fluffy.
The nutty rye and whole wheat bread is a pastry filled with nuts. It has a crunchy chew that makes it a satisfying meal. The savory aroma of almonds and walnuts and the fresh citrus flavor that spreads softly are luxurious.
Walnut bread is made by kneading a generous amount of savory walnuts into a chewy French bread dough and baking it. The rustic taste of wheat is irresistible to bread lovers!

Guesthouse Yurinan Cafe
Guesthouse Yurin-an offers a taste of machiya life while staying in a 100-year-old house. It is a popular lodging that attracts many travelers from all over Japan and abroad. Many people come to stay here alone because they can make friends with everyone here.Arinrin-an is also open as a café, and the "egg on rice" (650 yen) is a must-try. The dish is topped with Okayama's famous "yellow leek soy sauce," and you can have as much rice and eggs as you like!
Rice with egg over rice
This popular dish is made with rice, eggs, and soy sauce all locally produced in Okayama. The egg is then popped on top of the fluffy cooked rice, and the mixture is thickened and mixed with soy sauce and chives.
The synergy of the richness of the egg, the slight bitterness of the chives, and the umami and saltiness of the soy sauce will make your mouth full of happiness...!
Another must-try is the "Happiness Pudding" (330 yen), which will make you smile just by eating it. Each one has a different "expression"!
Happiness Pudding
When I scooped it into my face, feeling a little guilty, I found it to be firm and hard. But when you put it in your mouth, it collapses and the richness and sweetness of the custard melts and spreads at once! The caramel sauce at the bottom is bitter and gives it a crispy aftertaste.
Incidentally, the new "Panna Cotta," which has been on sale since last winter (2015), is also slowly gaining popularity. It is a panna cotta made with amazake, with a thick, jam-like strawberry sauce on the bottom.
It is a drinkable dessert with a soft and fluffy texture. You can enjoy the mellow taste of amazake right from the first bite. The strawberry sauce may change depending on the season.
