In Shimokitazawa, Tokyo, which is said to be the sacred place for curry, the famous curry shop "Eggplant Oyaji" has been loved for many years. It is a popular shop with many fans, including bandmen, writers, and actors. If you like curry, you may have visited it once.
With such an eggplant father, I got information that a new menu has appeared for the first time in 26 years (!) Since its opening. On behalf of the curry lovers of the En-eating editorial department, I went to eat at once!
◆ The shop is 5 minutes from the south exit of Shimokitazawa Station
The eggplant father is located in a back alley about 5 minutes walk from the south exit of Shimokitazawa station. Rather than a set meal shop, there is also an atmosphere like a coffee shop where even a single woman can easily enter. It's not a big shop, but it has a taste. One of the highlights is the insanely cute signboard.
◆ The new curry is full of mushrooms
There are two new menus since the opening: " Ebony Curry " with Maitake and Shimeji and brown mushrooms, and "Ivory Curry " with white Maitake and white mushrooms (940 yen each, tax included). Until now, "mushroom curry" using shimeji mushrooms has been offered and gained popularity, but this time it seems that the curry is finished with a lot of maitake mushrooms and a different texture.By the way, each menu name is said to have been named after Paul McCartney & Stevie Wonder's masterpiece "Ebony and Ivory". I wonder if it's named after the colors of ebony, ivory and mushrooms.
Ebony curry is made by simmering roux with plenty of meat and vegetables, maitake mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms, and brown mushrooms. It is topped with flower-shaped carrots, radish sprouts, and garlic chips.
On the other hand, the ivory curry is made with plenty of white maitake mushrooms, shimeji mushrooms, and mushrooms. Flower-shaped carrots, radish sprouts, and pink pepper are topped to add color to the appearance.
When I tried it, the "mushroom feeling" at the moment I brought it to my mouth was amazing! The taste of mushrooms is not defeated by the spicy curry. The mellow scent that comes out of your nose softly, and the texture of mushrooms that hits you no matter where you eat. Maitake mushrooms are crispy, and shimeji mushrooms and mushrooms are crispy. The umami of mushrooms that exudes as you chew, giving the rich curry a deeper taste!
Ebony curry and ivory curry are on sale for a limited time from July 4th to August 31st. In addition, it seems that the usual "mushroom curry" will be sealed during this period. If you always eat mushroom curry, why don't you take this opportunity to compare the taste?
