There are many local gourmet foods in Fukui prefecture such as "Echizen grated soba" and "Sauce katsudon", but " Habutae mochi " is also one of the must-see items.
Habutae mochi is a rice cake cake made by steaming rice cake powder, adding sugar and starch syrup, and kneading it. It features a fluffy mouthfeel, a silky supple texture, a thick texture, and a refreshing sweetness that does not leave behind. It's only attractive, isn't it?
Among them, the long-established Japanese confectionery store "Matsuokaken" in Fukui City seems to be the "originator" of habutae mochi, and the habutae mochi of the same store appeared in the recently made movie "Chihayafuru".
At Matsuokaken, in addition to the simple habutae mochi, "habutae mochi", which is made by wrapping habutae mochi with monaka skin, and "habutae mochi," which is made by sandwiching grained bean paste and habutae mochi with plump dough. Dorayaki is also on sale.
In particular, my favorite is "Habutai Monaka". It is a crisp monaka skin wrapped with red bean paste from Hokkaido and melted habutae mochi. It has the shape of a colon-shaped "eyebrows", named after the high-class silk fabric "Habutai".
When you bite into it, the skin melts in a blink of an eye. It's so smooth that it doesn't cause the "skin deprives the mouth of water" phenomenon that is common when eating monaka. The simple sweetness of the moist red bean paste and the elegant sweetness of the habutae mochi that overflows from the toro folds and spreads in your mouth, making you feel happiest.
If you make it as a souvenir for people who like Japanese sweets, you will surely be pleased, and if you make a tea contract when a customer comes, you will surely think that you have a good taste. If you visit Fukui prefecture, be sure to buy it and eat it!
If you think about it, you can buy it at Matsuokaken's mail order site, so if you are interested, please use it (however, shipping fee will be charged).
