Kameda Coffee

SIPY is a commercial facility located in Takefu, Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture. Located on the first floor is the cafe-restaurant Kameda Coffee. Not Komeda, but Kameda. It is completely different. (There is also a Komeda Coffee Shop in Fukui Prefecture.)

Starting with the morning service at 8:00 a.m., the restaurant offers a wide variety of menu items such as towering honey toast towers, colorful cakes, sandwiches, and more that will keep you coming back again and again. Of these, the most popular dish, "Kameda's Volga Rice" (980 yen before tax), is a must-try for first-timers!

Borga Rice

Borga Rice is omelet rice topped with a cutlet and a sauce such as demi-glace sauce. It is a local delicacy of Echizen City, Fukui Prefecture. A woman who lives in the area and works at a tourist information center said that she does not often have a chance to try it because it is "too hearty.

The origin of the curious name "Volga Rice" is not known. According to Wikipedia, there is a theory that a similar dish is eaten in the cities along the Volga River in Russia, but I wonder what the truth is.

◆ Don't worry about the calories.

Volga rice varies in taste and style from restaurant to restaurant. The borga rice at Kameda is an omelet of white rice topped with a tender, semi-boiled egg, and a fillet cutlet topped with a generous amount of homemade hashed meat sauce. The visual is like four warships landing on an uninhabited island in the middle of the ocean.

The filet mignon has landed.

The hashed roux is filled with meat, tomatoes cut into large pieces, and mushrooms. The umami of the ingredients is infused into this dish, and the balance of sweet, sour, and savory flavors is exquisite!

It's covered with a generous amount of hashbrowns and hashbrown roux.

The egg gently envelops the fluffy rice, and when you eat it, you can smell the buttery aroma. The mild richness fills your mouth.

The batter of the fillet cutlet remains crispy even when bathed in the hashed roux! The more you chew, the more the sweetness of the oil seeps out. In contrast, the meat inside is soft and juicy.

Covered in roux, but crispy! I can feel the determination of the batter.

You can enjoy the omelet, cutlet, and hash separately, or you can enjoy them all at the same time. The combination of these three items, which go well together to begin with, makes the dish delicious no matter how you slice it. It's like a kid's lunch for adults! I was worried that I wouldn't be able to finish it because of its substantial volume, but in the end I was able to finish it in one piece.

I've stopped worrying about calories and wild things.

We ordered a complimentary drink, which was a coffee blend. The mild acidity and roasted flavor made me want to have another cup as many times as I wanted! I bet it would go well with the sweet honey toast or cake! As expected, we were too full this time to have room for dessert, but if I ever come back, I'd like to try the honey toast tower next time!

By the way, I walked 30 minutes back to the station after this.
