Kumamoto-produced rice "Akigeshiki" is being served until July 29 at the "performance-linked" employee cafeteria "BASE6" at the Yahoo! JAPAN Tokyo head office.
This is an initiative to consume rice from Kumamoto, which is said to have been canceled due to the impact of the earthquake and has a large amount of surplus rice. It seems that Yahoo employees actually entered the disaster area and discovered this issue, and decided to purchase it with the hope that they could help with reconstruction as much as possible. It is planned to be able to consume about 1,700 kg (about 30 bales) of rice by the end of July.

According to the Japan Grain Inspection Association, Akigeshiki is a medium-sized grain that is rather large, has a slightly dark candy color, and has a good luster. It is actively cultivated in the mountainous areas of central Kyushu, especially around Aso in Kumamoto Prefecture.
In the past, BASE6 provided Tohoku rice "Takata no Yume", fish, and fruits for lunch to support the reconstruction of the Great East Japan Earthquake.
