In July, the cafe "ene cafe METHANE" opened in Naruko Onsen, Miyagi Prefecture. It's an eco-friendly cafe where you can drink tea if you bring "mechanical waste".

This cafe uses kitchen waste as a raw material and uses biogas produced by fermentation of anaerobic microorganisms as an energy source to boil water and provide tea to visitors. When kitchen waste is processed with this system, it can be used not only as energy but also as liquid fertilizer required for crop cultivation. It also leads to reduction of CO2 emissions.

It is based on research on "biomass energy production from kitchen waste using hot spring heat" by the Graduate School of Agriculture, Tohoku University.

The cafe is a membership system, but anyone can apply. You can enjoy tea with kitchen waste like a lunch box. Liquid fertilizer is provided free of charge.

The location is Naruko Onsen Yumeguri Parking Lot in Osaki City, Miyagi Prefecture. Open from 9am to 4pm on weekdays and Saturdays.
