On June 26, a hands-on facility "Mayo Terrace" where you can learn about mayonnaise opened in Chofu City, Tokyo. It is a facility where you can also experience making mayonnaise.
Mayo Terrace has appeared in the facility "Sengawa Kyuport" (opened in 2013), which was built on the site of the Kewpie Sengawa Factory (closed in 2011) and combines R & D and office functions. Utilizing the experience of factory tours for about 50 years, it seems that it is an experience-based tour facility with various ingenuity. It is also a big feature that it "full attends for 90 minutes".
On the 26th, the first day of the opening, the 5th grade children of Takizaka Elementary School in Chofu City, which is near the facility, visited as the first customer. After participating in the opening ceremony "Splitting Egg Ceremony", we immediately went on a facility tour. The En-eating editorial department has also learned about mayonnaise with the children!
The children were first guided to the "Mayonnaise Dome," which goes through a red star-shaped hole. Seen from the outside ... Yes, it's a space made in the shape of the familiar "Kewpie mayonnaise" bottle. Here you will learn about the “secret of mayonnaise”.
At the next "Factory Walk", you will learn the "secrets" of the factory through videos and quizzes.
Enter through an "air shower" just like a real factory and receive an explanation of the production line. Children are also curious about the video of the "egg breaking machine," which is very popular during factory tours. The fact that a large number of eggs are instantly classified as yolk, egg white, shell, etc. is a masterpiece in the video. Even in slow motion, you can't understand it unless you look closely. Do you know where the egg is broken?
For the work done in the factory, in game format. Is it possible to match the amount of ingredients and the expiration date as instructed so as not to make a mistake in the important and important composition? It seems that a confirmation system using a two-dimensional code that can be experienced in the game is actually introduced at the factory. When I started thinking "I might have put the wrong ingredients in the wrong way", I couldn't sleep at night because of anxiety ... It seems that it was developed to dispel the anxiety of such employees.
Now that you've learned about mayonnaise, let's experience making mayonnaise. Go to "Kewpie Kitchen".
The finished mayonnaise was tasted with vegetables. Compared to the mayonnaise made by other groups, the color and taste seem to be slightly different. It is strange that the materials and processes should be the same. The factory-made mayonnaise also seems to have a different taste. It seems that they have different tastes as to which one is delicious, but the children were surprised at the difference.
The Mayo-Terrace tour is held four times a day (90 minutes each) by reservation only. Reservations can be made not only by groups but also by individuals. Since it is adjacent to the research institute, you may be able to learn something different from the factory tours you have done so far. I am also concerned about future developments.
