Shigeru Mizuki, a manga artist known as the author of "GeGeGe no Kitaro". In his hometown of Sakaiminato City, Tottori Prefecture, there is a shopping street " Mizuki Shigeru Road " with the theme of the world view of youkai drawn by Mr. Mizuki.

It is no exaggeration to say that I grew up in a youkai anime, from "GeGeGe no Kitaro" to "Graveyard Kitaro" when Ikuzo Yoshi was singing the opening song. When I visited Mizuki Shigeru Road, which can be said to be a sanctuary for the author, I would like to introduce you to a lot of strange and fun youkai gourmet foods!

● To "Shigeru Mizuki Road", which celebrated its 20th anniversary last year

It takes about 50 minutes from Yonago Station on the JR Sakai Line and about 15 minutes from Yonago Airport Station to Sakaiminato City, where Mizuki Shigeru Road is located. There are currently six types of body designs, also known as the "Kitarou Train," and the interior and interior announcements are all GeGeGe family specifications.



When you get off Sakaiminato Station, Mizuki Shigeru Road is already there. Approximately 150 objects such as GeGeGe no Kitaro characters and bronze statues of youkai from all over Japan are installed between the station and Honmachi Arcade, and many souvenir shops and memorial halls are lined up.



● If you are hungry, let's eat youkai

Start walking immediately. In the first half, the first thing I was interested in was "Itan-momen roast" for 500 yen each. When you order, it will be baked on the spot. What is it made of? It's just a few minutes to wait for ittan-momen to be baked, without thinking about how unfashionable it is.



The true identity of Ittan-momen roast is squid roast. As it was a port town, the juicy squid and sweet and spicy squid were the best. By the way, it seems that the clerk cuts out each piece by hand.

In the middle of the road is the "Kobe Bakery Mizuki Shigeru Road Store," which is familiar from guidebooks. Here you can buy bread from popular characters such as Kitaro and Nezumi Otoko!



There are 7 types of character bread. It is around 200 yen each. I bought 3 types this time and put them in a fashionable handbag (50 yen).




The chocolate-flavored Kitaro is packed with custard and marron paste, and the Nezumi Otoko is packed with custard. Ittan-momen was a butter-rich pie. It's too cute to eat on the spot, so it might be a good souvenir or breakfast the next morning!


● Take a commemorative photo with a playable youkai


When approaching Honmachi Arcade, the road is at the end. What I met at a shop with a suspicious name called Yokai Research Institute was ...


Uhhhh! An eye-catching father whose eyeballs are super-realistic! When I bought a stick for eating while walking (350 yen per bottle), the clerk said, "Play with the pictures." It seems that you can play various things with the camera before eating.


By the way, this one is full of chestnut-filled red bean paste. The elegant sweetness will heal your tired body.


● It's a little heavy for souvenirs, but it's definitely this!

If you turn left in the middle of the arcade, you will find a petite theme park called "Gegege no Yokai Paradise". There are playsets and rest areas here, where you can enjoy shopping and light meals.


Goods and souvenirs limited to this place are also on sale, and the recommended one is this "Yokai Oden Can" (401 yen). I am at a loss because there are various package designs.

This canned food contains youkai. When I opened it, it was ...! My eyes met! Ittan-momen and Nurikabe konjac are included!



Oden has a strong vegetable soup flavor and is perfect for side dishes and snacks. It is quite powerful with quail, chikuwa, and black hanpen. It makes me grin, so I recommend it as a surprise souvenir.
