There are many souvenirs that can only be bought in Tokyo, but there are so many different types that it is hard to decide which one to buy. The classic "Tokyo Banana" is a good choice, but you may want to buy something a little different....

How about the "Suica penguins" that you can buy quickly and easily at the station?

The Suica penguin is the character of JR East's Suica IC card. Their round, round eyes and charming faces are very popular. Many people may actually be fans of the character.

Various goods are sold, but what I would like to introduce here are "kiemono" (=food), which are indispensable as souvenirs. If you are wondering what to buy, please refer to the following list.

Pensta, the only specialty store (Tokyo Station)

First of all, we would like to introduce "Pensta Tokyo Store," a specialty store of Suica penguin goods located in Tokyo Station. It is located inside the Yaesu South Exit ticket gate.

The most popular item here is the "Suica no Penguin Castella Yaki. Two types are available: chocolate cream and custard cream.

The reason for their popularity is not only the individually printed branding, but also the easy price of 300 yen for a package of four. It is a pity that they are not individually wrapped, but they are so cute that you can't help but reach for them.

Another popular item is the "Suica no Penguin Honey Cream Daifuku" (648 yen). The 9-piece individually wrapped packages are often bought as souvenirs to give away.

Pensta also sells drops and cookies. All of them are available only at this store. It is recommended for people passing through Tokyo Station.

Popular bread (Ikebukuro and Iidabashi Stations)

How about "Suica's Penguin Bread" if you want to give it to someone on the same day? It is available at Eddie's Bread Mini Ikebukuro and Iidabashi stores.

This bread became a hot topic in March 2013 when it was sold at an event to commemorate the start of the nationwide inter-use service for transportation system IC cards. After the event, it was sold at the two stores mentioned above, but it was so popular that it became difficult to obtain.

The spring version, which has been on sale since March, comes in a set with café au lait cream and green tea cream. The price is 463 yen per set. These breads make great souvenirs, but you may also want to buy one for yourself.

The Ikebukuro branch is located in the central passageway of JR Ikebukuro Station, just outside the central ticket gate. The Iidabashi store, on the other hand, is located inside the east exit of JR Iidabashi Station. Both are open from 7:00 a.m., so you may be able to buy some souvenirs for your business trip. If you go late at night, they may be sold out, so it is recommended to go as early as possible.

Check out our events!

Since March 2014 marks the 10th anniversary of Suica e-money, the collaboration cafe " Suica-fe" will be open from April 1 to May 15, and "Suica 's Penguin Brioche" will be on sale at Hotel Metropolitan until April 20. If you have a chance, please check them out as well.
