A limited-time project "Deep Sea Lab CAFE " with the theme of "Deep Sea" has started at Tokyu Hands Shibuya store (Shibuya-ku, Tokyo). Various exhibits and goods related to the deep sea are on sale.

The En-eating editorial department got information that a menu called "deep sea curry" is offered here. The image is of a "hydrothermal vent" on the seabed, and it is possible to "add more crabs" toppings.

What is "additional crabs"? In the first place, what is deep sea curry! I went to Shibuya to find out the truth.


■ I'm in Shibuya!

The Deep Sea Lab CAFE is held at "HINT7" on the 7th floor of the Tokyu Hands Shibuya store. Upon arriving at the floor, the normally bright and fashionable floor was transformed into a mysterious atmosphere. Is it all due to the big stuffed animal that welcomes you at the entrance? There seem to be various other goods as well.


But you guys are putting it off. Sorry! The time is just around noon. To satisfy your hunger, go straight to the Hands Cafe, which offers a collaboration menu.

■ Let's order "deep sea curry"

At the counter of the cafe at the back of the floor, a large photo of deep-sea curry is posted, and a photo of a real spout hole is attached to the side. If you didn't know the hydrothermal vent, imagine the deep sea world while looking at this picture.


Deep sea curry is 800 yen. The standard equipment seems to be "3 crabs". When I checked about "additional crabs" ... it was written on the menu board. Up to "20 crabs" can be added. You can add it for 400 yen, and it seems that you can also choose "5 crabs" (100 yen) and "10 crabs" (200 yen).

I thought it was "20 crabs", but I decided to add "5 crabs" to make it delicious. But in the first place, there was no one other than the author who added it!


When I ordered, the clerk cheerfully said "YES crab ~!". The tension has risen! You will be given a tray with a spoon and a number tag, so wait at your seat.

By the way, on the counter, there is an original coaster designed with deep-sea creatures and a project logo. You can take it with you freely, so please look for your favorite design!


■ Let's "add more crabs"

About 15 minutes to wait for a seat. The menu I ordered has arrived.


Looking at the curry ... what is this! Floating in the sea of black curry are bright pink sakura shrimp and white grated cheese. And three crabs are topped like climbing a mountain made of rice. A shocking visual.


The additional "5 crabs" were in another cup. You will be asked to "sprinkle on the curry" to eat, but let's give these children "brilliant" toppings as well. The theme is "Advance Crab". I imagined crabs gathering from the wide sea climbing the magma that jumped out of the ejection hole. Hmm, satisfied.


■ Let's eat crispy

I'm satisfied with the crab corps, so I eat it quickly. Before it gets cold.

Lou was more spicy than I had imagined. Although it has a mild taste, it has a spicy spiciness afterwards. Excellent compatibility with fragrant sakura shrimp and cheese. Crab has a taste and texture similar to fried small shrimp, and it goes well with curry. They will attack your mouth . If you take it easy, it will be itte. Please eat with a little care.

Also, the amount of rice is larger than it looks. The lower part of the ejecta, the base part, is piled up more than I expected. If you eat while breaking the surroundings, the roux will run out and the rice will be left over, so it is recommended to take the plunge and break the rice and eat while mixing with the roux and ingredients.

■ There is also a cafe latte

Another collaboration menu is cafe latte (460 yen). You can design "Giant squid" and "Mendako". I ordered the giant squid. The two long legs are cute. However, I don't really understand the "hugeness", so it looks like a flying squid.


According to the blog of Toba Aquarium (Toba City, Mie Prefecture), which has a history of exhibition, Mendako looks like a round octopus like a disk. The legs are short and have a mysterious shape. I see, does that make it a silhouette like a jellyfish? After all the deep sea is full of mysteries.

■ I have to look at the exhibition

Now. When I'm full, I head to the exhibition and goods corner that I passed by when I came. Originally, this is the main one ...

The exhibition is quite full-scale as it is a joint project with the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology JAMSTEC. A model (although quite small) of the manned submersible research vehicle "Shinkai 6500" that can dive to a depth of 6,500 m, equipment used in the actual deep sea survey, and a diorama of hydrothermal vents are on display.


If you look at the goods, you will find stuffed animals, models, miscellaneous goods, and other handmade works by creators, so there are plenty of things to see. There are also experimental tools such as test tubes and toys with lots of fun gimmicks, which remind us of the excitement of childhood.
