UniTerra of the United States has developed an espresso machine "Nomado" that uses no electricity or gas. The prototype has already been completed and we are currently raising funds for production and sales on KickStarter. At the time of writing the article, the funds raised have already exceeded the target amount and are scheduled to go on sale in 4 to 6 months.

Nomado is a device that can extract espresso with only ground coffee beans and hot water. The pressure for extraction is generated by a manual pump, so no AC power supply, batteries, gas, etc. are required. In addition, it has an eco-friendly design that does not require a dedicated cafe pod.

To extract espresso with Nomado, first set the coffee powder in Nomado.

Then pour hot water into Nomado.

After that, if you press the lever attached to Nomado alternately left and right like a seesaw, the espresso will be extracted.

Nomado is said to have been inspired by the classic lever-type espresso machine. The size of the conventional lever-type espresso machine has been significantly reduced, and the operation has been simplified. For this reason, anyone can extract espresso without any special training.

The simplification does not sacrifice functionality, and the manual lever attached to the Nomado can generate up to 10 bar of pressure. Sufficient pressure is available for full-scale espresso extraction. The dedicated extraction port "True Crema Valve" attached to Nomado also assists in full-scale espresso extraction. This special extraction port makes a lot of crema.
