Beverage with New Matcha Green Tea

The matcha green tea beverage sold at 14 Starbucks Tea & Cafe stores nationwide will be switched to new matcha green tea made from the first tea harvested in Minami-Kyushu, Kagoshima Prefecture, from May 13 through June 11 (the offer will end when the new matcha green tea is gone).

Starbucks Tea & Cafe focuses on new green tea not only to offer a new way to enjoy tea, but also to pay homage to the Japanese tea culture that has been cherished for many years. We will switch the matcha used in our matcha beverages to new matcha to convey the appeal of Japanese tea.

Tea leaves first picked in early April in Minami-Kyushu City, Kagoshima Prefecture, known as one of the nation's leading tea production areas, are quickly processed into matcha and used in the beverage. The appeal of the new matcha is the strong, green flavor of the first tea leaves and the pleasant astringent aftertaste. The flavor of the first tea leaves picked for the first time varies depending on various conditions such as climate, hours of sunlight, and soil, and is well known as the flavor of the year.

The seasonal specialties, Matcha & Crushed Pistachio Milk Tea Latte, Wasanmitsu Matcha Tea Latte (hot or iced), and Wasanmitsu Matcha Frappuccino, can be enjoyed only this season with new matcha green tea.
