Kit Kat Mini Tokyo Island Lemon

Kit Kat Mini Tokyo Island Lemon is one of the "Gotochi Kit Kat" series, which features local specialties from various regions of Japan. According to Nestlé Japan, the island lemon used in the product began in 1940 when Yuji Kikuchi, a resident of Tinian Island, brought back a seedling of a lemon called "Yap Lemon" to Hachijojima. The lemon seedlings were brought back from Hachijojima in 1973.

On Hachijojima, the fruit ripened on the tree is called "Hachijo fruit lemon," and on the Ogasawara Islands, the green fruit is shipped as "island lemon. Island lemons are characterized by their mild acidity and refreshing aroma. The fruit is about 1.5 times larger than a regular lemon and has a rounded shape. They can be eaten while the skin is still green.

The main season for harvesting Ogasawara island lemons is from September to October. Because of their sweetness, they can be eaten raw, processed into jellies and jams, and used in confections.

This time, the island lemon juice powder is kneaded into the cream and sandwiched between crispy, savory wafers. It is said to be refreshing and sweet. The color of the cream is reminiscent of the blue peel of an island lemon.
