Nagano Purple is an original black grape variety bred by the Nagano Prefectural Fruit Experiment Station in Suzaka City, Nagano Prefecture, from a cross between Kyoho and Rizamat, and registered as a variety in 2004 (Heisei 16). It is characterized by its sweetness, with a sugar content of over 20 degrees, and a rich taste similar to that of Kyoho grapes.
