Tsumagoi cabbage is used for this garlic pickle. The fresh cabbage is sprinkled with sesame seeds and seasoned with sesame oil. Shredded salted kelp is placed next to the cabbage.

When the lid is opened, the aroma of sesame seeds and garlic wafts out, stimulating one's appetite. When served on a plate, the dish looks even more substantial than it is in the package.

The shredded salted kelp is highly seasoned, and is a perfect accompaniment to beer or chu-hai (Japanese rice wine). The cabbage is shallowly pickled, and perhaps because I tried the kelp first, I did not notice a strong saltiness on my tongue, so I was able to take a large portion at a time and enjoy its freshness and crunchy texture to the fullest.

By alternating between the kelp and kyabetsu, you can enjoy the kelp and kyabetsu as complements to each other, and you can continue eating them indefinitely. This alone will probably empty a 350ml (11.83us fl oz) can of beer. It seems simple, but it is a very satisfying snack.
