Calbee Baked Oats

A first-hand review of Calbee's newly released oatmeal cereals, Baked Oats Fruit and Baked Oats Nuts & Seeds.

Baked Oats

Baked Oats is Calbee's first cereal in the oatmeal category. The oatmeal is deliciously baked using a proprietary process.

The lineup includes Baked Oats Fruit and Baked Oats Nuts & Seeds, available from April 18. The price at supermarkets in Tokyo was 398 yen each (tax not included).

The only grain used is oats. Oatmeal is usually heated and eaten like porridge by adding water or milk, but "Baked Oats" does not need to be heated and can be easily eaten by simply pouring milk or yogurt over it.

Raspberries, raisins, apples and mango are added to baked oatmeal. The result is colorful in appearance.

Calbee is known for its Frugula, but Baked Oats are basically sweet-free. You can enjoy the savory taste of oats, the crunchy texture, and the slight sweetness of the fruit. Also, compared to Frugula, the Baked Oats return more quickly when milk is poured over them, giving the impression that it takes longer for them to become fluffy. I felt it was easier to eat slowly because it keeps its goodness for a longer time.

Baked Oats Nuts & Seeds

Sliced almonds, crushed almonds, and pumpkin seeds are added to baked oatmeal. This one is less sweet, although you can still taste the grain-derived sweetness of the oats. Instead, you can taste the savory and rich flavor. Recommended for those who want a cereal that is not sweet.
