Sushiro will hold "Tohoku Sanriku Umaimonichi" from February 9.
Tohoku Sanriku Umaimonichi
The Tohoku Sanriku Umaimon Fair is Sushiro's first fair featuring 15 kinds of local gourmet foods as well as seafood from Sanriku, one of the world's three largest fishing ports. The Sanriku seafood includes "extra-large jumbo scallops" from Onagawa, Miyagi Prefecture, which are rich and full of sweetness; "authentic shark fin nigiri" from Kesennuma, with Sushiro's original seasoning; and a visually striking dish of natural shirasu from the Sanriku coast, kama-age and topped with so much nori and rice that you can hardly see the rice! The "Kama-age Tami Shirasu" (deep-fried baby sardines) and other items are available.
Local delicacies include Sushiro's signature Matsumae pickles with abalone and scallops, "Abalone with seafood (sea urchin and salmon roe)," "Harako-meshi-style seaweed wrapped rice" inspired by Miyagi's local cuisine, and "Fukakatsu nigiri" a specialty of Kesennuma.
