A regional breakfast "Kara Mandarin Jam from Mie Prefecture" will be available at Komeda Coffee in the Chukyo area from June 23rd. It will be offered as one of the "Morning Service" selection menus for those who ordered drinks from the opening to 11:00 am.

"I want you to know the wonderful local products that can be harvested locally. Also, I would like to support the producers by processing the fruits that have become nonstandard products due to their size and shape into jam." Komeda's community contribution initiatives started in 2019. Area-limited jams made with local specialties are offered as one of the breakfast service selection menus. So far, we have used special products from Ehime, Aomori, Nagano, Yamagata, and Hiroshima prefectures. Since it is consumed in the production area, the exhaust gas generated by trucks during transportation is also reduced, leading to CO2 reduction.

Kara mandarin jam from Mie prefecture

Kara mandarin is a variety of Citrus unshiu and orange (King mandarin). It is known as "spring mandarin orange" because it reaches the harvest season after March. It takes about a year on the tree from the time the flowers settle to the time of harvest, so the fruits are well nourished and have a rich taste with a very high sugar content. In order to protect from the typhoons and sunshine in summer and autumn, and the cold and dryness in winter, each fruit is carefully cultivated by putting a bag on it.


Kara mandarin, which has become out of specification due to its size, is used for jam. The taste of the ingredients is utilized, and you can enjoy a firm sweetness and a refreshing acidity.
