All 23 Starbucks stores in Japan (excluding some small stores) will start offering all 23 cold beverage items such as iced Starbucks latte and caramel macchiato in a straw-free lid from April 16th. At the same time, we will change the plastic cups of this product to FSC-certified paper cups to further reduce the amount of disposable plastic generated in stores.

From February 2021, Starbucks stores in Japan will offer a total of three items, iced coffee and two types of iced tea, in paper cups and straw-free lids instead of disposable plastics. This time, we will expand the target products to all 23 items. This is about 70% of the standard ice beverage, and is expected to produce about 67 million straws a year and the same number of plastic cups (about 67 million cups). * Calculated from the estimated number of target products that use paper cups and strawless lids annually, based on the products scheduled to be switched from April 16th.


The strawless lid is comfortable to drink and can be used for both hot and ice. The mouthpiece is designed to be larger than the conventional lid used for hot beverage so that you can enjoy the aroma of coffee. By adopting the flip-up shape, it is possible to reduce the plastic muddler used at the time of TO GO (take-out) and the seal that blocks the mouthpiece.


Paper cups use FSC certified paper produced from raw materials from well-managed forests and other controlled sources. The inside and outside of the cup are laminated for durability so that it is not easily affected by condensation even when cold liquid is poured.
