What is Itohkyuemon?

A teahouse founded in the third year of Tenpo in the late Edo period. The first Ito Tsuneemon and Takizo were involved in the tea industry in Namura, Tahara Village (currently Ujitawara Minami). After that, he inherited tea making from generation to generation with the second generation Ito Tsuneemon / Kusaburo, the third generation Ito Tsuneemon / Yumatsu, and the fourth generation Ito Takichi. The fifth generation, Kyuzo Ito, moved from Ujitawara to the land of Uji and set up a store selling Uji tea at Uji Renka (currently Omotesando, Eijiin). In Ujitawara, where the company was founded, tea production is still ongoing at the tea plantations that have been passed down to the Ito family for generations.
