Akafuku "Akafuku Zenzai

The Akafuku brand of confectionery, famous as a souvenir of Ise, Mie, has begun selling "Akafuku Zenzai" as a seasonal menu item. This was recently announced on Akafuku's official website.

The selling price is 530 yen (tax included). Akafuku Zenzai is a sweet winter treat. The large Dainagon azuki beans that go into the Zenzai are carefully cooked so as not to leave a tangy taste or spoil the azuki's grain and flavor. The rice cake used in zenzai is made from baked rice cake which is baked to order. In addition to this, "shiofuki konbu" (salted kelp) is added as a palate freshener to make each bowl of zenzai more enjoyable.

When it was first sold in 1966, it was called "Akafuku Shiruko. However, various improvements were made, and in 1987, the name was changed to "Akafuku Zenzai" and has continued to be sold to this day. The following stores sell Akafuku Zenzai
