"Corona Dispersal! Apotropaic Magic Japanese Sweets Set" with Amabie Namagashi and Azuki Beans
Amabie namagashi from Yamaguchi / Kako Noki

Pre-order sales of the "Corona Dispersal! Apotropaic Magic Japanese Confectionery Set" have begun at the Japanese and Western confectionery specialty store "Kako Noki" operated by Asahi Confectionery in Yamaguchi Prefecture. You can purchase it from online shopping.

The selling price is 1,360 yen (tax included and shipping not included). The set includes 2 Amabie namagashi and 2 types of "Minamizuki" with sweetly boiled azuki beans on uiro.

Amabie's namagashi is handmade one by one by craftsmen, incorporating the taste of the season. A monster "Amabie" that has been passed down since the Edo period was modeled in hopes of the convergence of the new coronavirus infection. Neri-kiri wrapped in red bean paste with crisp eyes is an impressive design. During the development, the craftsmen referred to the illustrations of Amabie drawn by children.

"Minazuki" is shaped like a triangle in the Heian period, following the custom of Miyanaka, who cuts ice from the ice house on June 1st of the lunar calendar and eats it to dispel the heat. The red color of azuki beans has the meaning of warding off evil. Two types of tea, "white" with an elegant sweetness and "dark tea" with a rich flavor, are packed together.
