Shinjuku Takano "Flower Jam Sakura" and "Sakura Tea"
"Flower Jam Sakura" and "Sakura Tea"

I tried "Flower Jam Sakura" and "Sakura Tea" from "Shinjuku Takano" in Tokyo, which is known for its fruits and sweets. You can see the compatibility between each flavor and the so-called "Russian tea" style of drinking, where you can enjoy the jam by dropping it into black tea.

Such a package

Flower jam Sakura is 750 yen with 150g (5.29oz) (excluding tax, the same applies below), and cherry tea is 350 yen with 20g (0.71oz).

Jam contains sugar-pickled cherry blossoms, cherry blossom extract, and syrup containing rare sugar. It's not a fruit, so pectin is added to make the jam plump.

On the other hand, black tea is made by adding cherry blossom leaves to the tea leaves to add more fragrance. It is not a tea bag, but a sealed transparent bag as it is.

First, let's see the taste from the flower jam cherry blossoms. When you open the lid, you can smell the flowers very faintly. When I try to scoop it with a spoon, it feels firm and gives the impression of a firm jelly. The pretty light scarlet color is eye-catching.

When first opened, it has a fluffy floral scent.

It doesn't lose its shape even when scooped, and when transferred to a plate, it still has a jelly-like atmosphere. When you put it in your mouth, the jelly part will melt.

Impression that it is a solid jelly

Unlike fruit jam, it contains petals instead of pulp, so it has an interesting texture. Although it has the scent of cherry blossoms, it is a unique pale thing that is different from "Sakuramochi". The sweetness is strong and the acidity is not so much.

Contains petals

Compared to apple jam and orange marmalade, it has a much milder flavor, so it is recommended to put it on yogurt, with less habitual cheese, or on crackers rather than applying it to toast.

Cherry tea

Cherry tea can be brewed using a teapot or a separate tea bag pouch. This time I used a pouch.

It contains tea leaves as they are, not a tea bag.

With cherry leaves

When you pour hot water, it mixes with the scent of black tea and gives off the scent of cherry blossom leaves. The taste is strong and it has a richness that seems to be suitable for milk tea. The flavor of cherry blossoms is a little subdued after the first rise, but when you put tea in your mouth, you can smell the cherry blossoms again. This is a little like "Sakuramochi".

Pretty solid taste

Finally, I put jam in black tea. The warmth of black tea melts the jelly and the petals spread to the bottom of the cup. When you scoop it with a spoon, the clear flowers float and it's cute, and when you drink it, it adds a gentle sweetness and the scent of cherry blossoms increases, making it a perfect match.

Delicious with increased sweetness and aroma

You can enjoy jam and tea individually, but if you try them together, you can enjoy the springiness even more. You can easily feel like cherry blossom viewing at home, so please give it a try.
