I tried the spring dessert "Sakura Jelly" from "Kashipo Eitaro" in Akita. A single cherry blossom is trapped in an open shape, and the jelly has a scent of cherry blossom liqueur, making it a refreshingly light sweet candy.


Eitaro in Akita was founded in 1883 (Meiji 16). In Tokyo, there is "Eitaro Sohonpo", which dates back to the first year of Bunsei (1818), but they are different shops.


Sakura jelly was introduced in 2004 at Eitaro in Akita. The price is 1,050 yen (tax included) for 3 pieces. In addition to stores at JR Akita Station and Akita Airport, you can purchase online from the direct sales site. However, in that case, shipping fee will be charged separately.



When you unwrap the wrapping paper in a calm color, a bright pink box will appear. There are three transparent dome-shaped containers inside. It is solidified in the form of flowers blooming in a slightly colored jelly. It looks like an "underwater flower".


Remove the light scarlet paper that is decorated with the lid on the back and remove the sticker to reveal the smooth surface of the jelly along with the fragrance of cherry liqueur.


The jelly is very soft, so be careful when transferring it to a plate. If you poke it with a spoon, it will tremble.


I will finally see the taste. I'd like to eat the cherry blossoms that came in from the first bite, but the size is quite large and it is not easy to scoop up, so first I will scrape the surrounding jelly little by little and eat it.

It has a refreshingly light sweetness and a savory taste that is a little different from sakura mochi, making it a very easy-to-eat taste. After eating the jelly around you, you can finally scoop up the cherry blossoms. The flowers have a slight crunchy texture, and the flavor is stronger than that of jelly, and the feeling of cherry-blossom viewing increases as you chew.
