Shirokane-Takanawa Tonkatsu Restaurant "Daigo

Daigo is a long-established tonkatsu restaurant in Shirokane-Takanawa. It is famous for its high quality tonkatsu (pork cutlets) made from high quality pork. It is reasonably priced for its content and location in Shirokane-Takanawa, with lunch (from 11:30 a.m.) starting at 1,100 yen.

Until November 2019, the restaurant was located on Bass Street, about a two-minute walk from the station, but was relocated due to the reconstruction of the building it occupies, and reopened in mid-January 2020, about a five-minute walk away.


The store area has been reduced compared to the previous one. The number of seats is also reduced to about 11 (including 3 seats at the counter).

The current lunch menu as of February 2020 is Tonkatsu Set Meal for 1,100 yen (tax included). There are also set meals such as ginger yaki, fried prawns, and fried chicken. All of them come with rice, pork miso soup, and oshinko.


This time, we ordered the Tonkatsu Set Meal and the Fried Shrimp Set Meal (1,200 yen).

The pork cutlet had a crispy batter and juicy inside. When you bite into it, the juices and the flavor of the meat spread out. It's a model of what you can expect from tonkatsu!


The batter is thin, not too coarse or too fine, and has the perfect aroma. It enhances the juiciness of the meat.


The sauce is also insanely good! It's probably homemade, but it has a rich flavor with the sweetness of the vegetables and other ingredients. It goes really well with cabbage and rice...!


The pork soup is also delicious. The miso paste is not too salty, and the umami of the pork comes to the fore in the soup. The soup is full of ingredients that make it worth drinking.


Four small fried prawns are assorted. Comes with creamy tartar sauce.



Once you get past the crispy batter, the texture of the shrimp is plump and elastic. Even though it is short, it is still thick and satisfying to eat. The umami of the prawns and the richness of the tartar are a perfect match! I wish there was more tartar.


Even though the restaurant is located in a residential area far from the station, it's still a popular place where people line up during lunch time and even at night depending on the time of day. Considering the fact that it has only been a short time since they moved, they must be holding on to their old fans. If you like pork cutlets, this is a restaurant you should visit at least once!
