Starbucks "Matcha Cream Frappuccino"

As a cafe menu, "Matcha drink" has gained citizenship along with coffee. I also love it, but the taste of matcha drinks is quite different depending on the store!

So, this time, I compared the "ice matcha drinks" sold by the four cafe chains Starbucks , Tully's , Veloche , and Excelsior Cafe!

Ice matcha drink comparison

Starbucks

Starbucks "Matcha Cream Frappuccino" (Tall size from 490 yen, tax not included). Milk and sweetness are added to matcha and blended with ice. Finish with whipped cream and topping.

Starbucks "Matcha Cream Frappuccino"

The drink has a crispy ice pellet on the first mouth, but it is not as crunchy as it is chewed, but rather smooth. The bitterness is light and easy to drink, and the drink itself is moderately sweet. Still, the taste and aroma of matcha is strong.

Starbucks "Matcha Cream Frappuccino"

The whipped cream is also fluffy and squeezed a lot, but the sweetness is unexpectedly modest. The place where this melts and mixes with matcha frappuccino is delicious again!

Starbucks "Matcha Cream Frappuccino"

There is no astringency or bitterness, and the taste is as if the good points of matcha were extracted, so even beginners of matcha could easily drink it.

Matcha feeling (taste / aroma) ★★★★ ☆ 3.5 Slightly milky whipped cream ★★★★ ☆ 4 Modest sweetness Balance of overall sweetness ★★★★ ☆ 4 Slightly refreshing sweetness

Tully's

Tully's "Uji Matcha Cream Sworkle" (short size 450 yen and up, tax not included). Frozen drink using Uji matcha is finished by squeezing plenty of whipped cream.

Tully's "Uji Matcha Cream Sworkle"

The drink, which feels crispy ice pellets on your teeth, spreads in your mouth, and the bitterness and umami of matcha wraps your tongue. The lush scent that comes out of your nose is also refreshing! The rich astringency unique to Uji matcha is fully utilized so that the tongue feels rough.

Tully's "Uji Matcha Cream Sworkle"

Melt whipped cream here and drink to make a rich matcha latte. Matcha drink is crisp and astringent, and whipped cream adds sweetness and mellowness with just the right amount of salted plum. Even if it becomes mellow, the last thing that remains in your mouth is matcha, so the aftertaste is refreshing.

Tully's "Uji Matcha Cream Sworkle"

The whipped cream is also rich and insanely delicious like the soft serve ice cream on the ranch ...! I just want to scoop it up with a spoon and eat it.

Matcha feeling ★★★★ ☆ 4.5 Whipped cream with a lively fresh matcha flavor ★★★★★ 5 Rich and delicious sweetness x bitterness balance ★★★★ ☆ 4.5 Maybe sweet tooth people may be a little sweeter?

Veloce

Veroche's "Matcha Float" (M size 360 yen, tax included). Soft serve ice cream is squeezed into a bright green matcha drink using Uji matcha.

Veroche "Matcha Float"

Matcha drinks are not sweet at all! It's quite an adult taste. It has a deep bitterness and tastes like matcha green tea. The vanilla flavor of the soft serve ice cream adds the sweetness and mellowness of the milk.

Veroche "Matcha Float"

However, even if you drink it while melting the soft serve ice cream, it will not be so sweet (it will not be a mellow matcha latte), so while eating soft serve ice cream with a spoon, drink matcha and refresh your mouth, and then soft serve ice cream again. It may be good to enjoy them alternately. Although it has soft serve ice cream, it is not sweet overall, so it is recommended for sugar-free people.

Veroche "Matcha Float"

By the way, this was served much faster than other cafes! by chance…?

Matcha feeling ★★★★ ☆ 4 Astringent and bitter soft serve ice cream ★★★★ ☆ 4 Rich but refreshing balance of overall sweetness ★★★ ☆☆ 3 Very bitter

Excelsior Cafe

Excelsior's "Ice Uji Matcha Latte" (S size from 380 yen, tax not included). It is a drink that is finished by adding the sweetness of milk while making the best use of the flavor of Uji matcha. Add whipped cream (47 yen, tax not included) to this and drink it.

Excelsior Cafe "Ice Uji Matcha Latte"

Umm! When I inserted the straw to the bottom of the cup and drank it, the bittersweet taste of strong matcha spread on my tongue from the first bite (the bottom is thick matcha)! As time goes by, the milk and whipped cream melt and mix with the matcha, creating a mellow latte.

Excelsior Cafe "Ice Uji Matcha Latte"

The whipped cream is sweet like a shortcake. However, matcha is also quite bitter, so the overall balance of sweetness and bitterness is just right.

Excelsior Cafe "Ice Uji Matcha Latte"

One unfortunate thing is that there is a lot of ice. It's not a frozen drink, so it seems that you can finish it by chilling a hot matcha drink with ice, but when the ice melts, the taste will inevitably diminish, and the ice bulk makes it look like you finished drinking earlier than you expected. The aroma and umami that are unique to Uji Matcha were strong and delicious, so I felt a little wasteful. But the taste is definitely!

Matcha feeling ★★★★ ☆ 3.5 Whipped cream that dilutes a little with milk and ice in the second half ★★★ ☆☆ 3 Firmly sweet Overall sweetness balance ★★★★ ☆ 4 Just right, but it dilutes a little when the ice melts

summary

All four companies tasted good, but my personal favorite was Tully's "Uji Matcha Cream Sworkle." I felt the matcha strongly while I was drinking it, and I also liked the balance with the whipped cream. For those who like sweetness, Starbucks is recommended, and for those who like bitterness, Veroche is recommended.

By the way, I have compared hot matcha latte in the past, so please refer to it.
