Gion Tsujiri "Gato-Bubu Matcha Financier and Hojicha Financier

Gion Tsujiri is an Uji tea specialty store with its main store in Gion, Kyoto. Gion Tsujiri has a slightly different type of Japanese sweet.

Gatobubu Matcha Financier and Hojicha Financier" are Japanese-style financiers using Gion Tsujiri's signature Uji matcha and hojicha teas. They are made by combining butter and almonds with rice flour and glutinous rice flour. The luxurious packaging has a black base with gold lettering design.


The price is 1,512 yen for a pack of three each of matcha and hojicha. The matcha comes in gold packaging and the hojicha comes in silver packaging, one at a time.


The first thing that surprises you is the texture. The texture is far different from what you might imagine when you hear the word "financier" and has a soft elasticity that bounces off your teeth. It is soft and bouncy and bounces back against your teeth, just like gyuhi.


The flavor is rich, reminiscent of terrine. The matcha has a refreshing aroma based on a mild sweetness, while the hojicha has a savory flavor. The high point is that the individuality of the tea can be clearly felt in the rich butter.


Japanese-style financiers are not so rare, but this chunky texture is unique to Gatoububu. Try this unique taste that is at once Western and Japanese!
