The other day, I found a can of "squirt" from Miyagi prefecture in KALDI. The pastel-colored label was also eye-catching at the sales floor. I wasn't very familiar with sea squirts, so I was curious, so I tried it.

Ascidians are amber-colored marine organisms shaped like pineapples. It is often eaten in the Tohoku area and South Korea.


This sea squirt can is made by finishing the sea squirt with gochujang flavor. One piece contains 140g (4.94oz), and the price was 537 yen (tax included). A luxury item for canning.



It looks like a shellfish, like offal. Therefore, I expected elasticity and chewy texture, but the texture was surprisingly soft and crisp. Is the lever close? The texture is rough.



Sweet and spicy seasoned with gochujang. You can feel the complex taste of sea squirts, such as slight bitterness and acidity. There is no dramatic habit, and the taste is relatively easy for everyone to accept. It seems to go well with sake and white rice.
