The daily lunch specials at family restaurants offer colorful flavors at affordable prices. The editorial team has enjoyed each of the daily lunches offered at Jonathan, Royal Host, Gusto, Denny's, and Cocos, and I'd like to decide on the top three based on my own judgment and prejudice!

No. 3 Gusto: Daily special lunch

The daily lunch special offers a different combination of meat and fried dishes for each day of the week at the unbelievably low price of 499 yen each (tax not included, same as below). A free refill of the daily soup is also included. Recommended for those who want to satisfy their hunger at a reasonable price.


It's served from 10:30am to 5pm on weekdays, so lunch refugees who missed the chance to leave work can be saved.

No.2 Royal Host Daily Special Lunch

Royal Host is an upscale family restaurant, but you can have the daily lunch for less than 1,000 yen. The set includes a main dish, rice, and soup. The main dish is served with a colorful salad, a main dish, and a side dish.


The editorial staff had the "Japanese style grated chicken cutlet with shumai" lunch (830 yen, 880 yen at some stores). All the side dishes are uncompromisingly delicious, and each one is a dish in itself. The price is reasonable for this content.

No.1 Cocos Daily Special Lunch

The lunch of the day at Cocos is the one that I found to be the most satisfying and the one that I would like to repeat! The price is 690 yen and three different main dishes are served every day of the week. There were plenty of salads, stylish side dishes that looked like something you would find in a bar, and hearty main dishes. I was impressed by the fact that each dish was delicious on its own despite the low price, without any sense of "well, it's cheap, so what?
