Fries" are ordered not only at hamburger chains, but also at izakaya (Japanese-style pubs) and family restaurants. They are the perfect accompaniment to drinks and beverage bars. I want hot french fries when I drink at home, too!

In such cases, frozen french fries sold at convenience stores come in handy. If you buy them outside and take them out, they tend to be cold and limp by the time you get home, but with these, you can just pop them in the microwave at home and enjoy "freshly made" hot fries.

Difference in cut and shape

7-ELEVEN's "microwave french fries" (138 yen including tax, same as below) are Mc●nardo type. They are long, thin, and crispy. They are not salted and taste like potatoes themselves. If it is not enough, you can add ketchup or mayonnaise by yourself! Note that they become slightly hard when cooled.

LAWSON's "Thick-cut French Fries" (130 yen) are thick-cut Ken●ky-type fries. They are not as crispy, but the thicker cut gives the fries a firmer texture and sweeter taste. They are moist, salty, and delicious. The taste of the potatoes is so strong that you may want to eat them with tartar sauce or cheese powder. They are soft even when cold.

And Famima's "Mom's Shokudo Fries" (103 yen) are a stylish jagged type. Chez Kushak's fries were also shaped like this. They are thick and crispy on the outside and crunchy on the inside. Because of the jagged shape, the texture remains quite firm even after cooling. They have a slight and moderate saltiness.

What was the best tasting frozen french fries from a convenience store?

I was trying to decide which was the best, but to be frank, it depends on the taste of the person eating them! 7-ELEVEN if you like the crunchy texture and thick skin, Lawson if you like the crunchy inside of the potato rather than the skin, and Famima somewhere in between.

Personally, I like fries with a thicker texture, so I thought the Lawson fries were the best. And the texture doesn't deteriorate much when they get cold!

Since the whole package costs less than 400 yen, I think it would be a good idea to buy all three for a party where everyone can get together and enjoy them according to their own tastes!
