Ginza

Bakery

Ginza Bakery is located about a 2-minute walk from Ginza 1-chome Station. The elegant blue signboard of this eye-catching store is actually a café associated with "GINBIS," a biscuit maker that sells popular sweets such as "Asparagus Biscuit" and "TABEKO DOBUTSU".

GINBIS is a long-established confectionery manufacturer that has been loved for many years. Originally founded as a company that manufactured and sold Japanese and Western confections, it later changed its name to "Ginza Bakery" and opened a restaurant. The company later withdrew from the restaurant business and changed its name to "GINBISU. Currently, "GINBIS" and the "Ginza Bakery" introduced here are operated as separate companies.

The first floor is a sales space with a counter, and the second floor is a café space where you can sit and enjoy the bakery. In the showcase in front of the entrance, the popular product "Castella Biscuit Sandwich" is displayed.

Currently available are three flavors: plain, chocolate dipped, and rum raisin. The price is 360 yen for the plain, and 390 yen each for the chocolate dip and rum raisin. I tried the standard plain one this time.

Castella Biscuit Sandwich

It looks like a "biscuit" with cream sandwiched in between, but I was surprised when I actually held it! What's so light...! It is so soft and fluffy! The soft dough is so airy and fluffy that you could almost dent the part you hold directly with your finger, and when you bite into it, it is soft and fluffy. You can't help but be entranced by the dreamy texture.

The cream sandwich has a strong milkiness and the richness of milk spreads in your mouth. The cream sandwich has a mild taste with a light aftertaste. The cool cream tends to melt easily, so it is recommended to eat it as soon as possible!

Stick

Sesame

In addition to the Castella Biscuit Sandwich, the Stick Sesame is also a must-try. It is a snack that recreates the hardness of the asparagus cookie when it was first sold (1968). There are three flavors: "vegetable," "sesame," and "edamame.

When eating sponge cake cookie sandwiches at the café space, they serve them in a cup as a tasting, so if you find a flavor you like, you can buy it and take it home. By the way, the author recommends the "Edamame"! The slight bean flavor and just the right amount of saltiness is addictive.

Not only is the taste great, but the price is very reasonable considering the location in Ginza. And since there are relatively few pedestrians in front of the store, the cafe space is often empty (depending on the time of day). It is quite a good spot!
