Saeko What are some of your most memorable foods from your school days?

Konzaki I have almost no memories of my school days to begin with, but I think I used to buy steamed meat buns at convenience stores.

Saeko I see.... I used to eat "Calorie Mate" on my way home from club activities! It's just what I need to fill my small stomach.

Konzaki I remember seeing a lot of people in the sports club eating them.

Saeko So, let's compare "Calorie Mate" this time! I've collected five varieties that are currently (March 2019) available: plain, cheese, chocolate, fruit, and maple!

Calorie Mate Plain

Konzaki : Come to think of it, this may be the first time I've ever eaten plain. I usually tend to pick up other flavors.



Saeko I've never done this before! The texture is exactly like a "calorie mate" as it crumbles and soaks up all the moisture in your mouth! I miss the good old days!

Konzaki The crunchy texture is probably almonds. Overall, it was like "a scone eaten without anything on it"!


Saeko I can also taste a hint of juicy sweetness from the apples. But overall, the taste is simple.

Konzaki Plain.

Calorie Mate Cheese

Saeko Next up: cheese flavor! That's the flavor I ate the most when I was in school. I can really taste the milk flavor and it's so satisfying.



Konzaki If I had to use an analogy, I would say it is a "salty cookie" with a strong aroma.... There is a salty taste at the end. The aftertaste is delicious. After swallowing, the flavor passes through you softly.

Saeko Nuts are not as prominent as in the plain version.

Konzaki I wonder if they wanted to strengthen the impression of the cheese. The flavor is a little strong, so it is certainly worth eating!


Saeko I was reminded of the good times I had as a student when I was eating it....

Calorie Mate Chocolate

Saeko Next up: chocolate. This is Konzaki-san's favorite, right?



Konzaki If you're going to eat Calorie Mate, you can't go wrong with chocolate. It tastes more like cocoa than chocolate. More like a cocoa cookie.

Saeko : It's a little dry, but the taste is consistent. That's a flavor that kids would love.


Konzaki It's easy to eat because it doesn't have too many peculiarities. Highly recommended.

Calorie Mate Fruit

Saeko:The fruit is... oh! The moment you open it, the aroma of fruit hits you!



Konzaki : Looking at the ingredients, it seems that lemon peel and grapefruit are used. I wonder if that is why it has a slightly sour aroma. This flavor may not be to everyone's liking. To be honest, it was not for me.

Saeko I'm sorry, I don't understand. I'm totally fine with it. It tastes more like a sports drink than a "tropical fruit" drink. Not juicy, but refreshing.


Konzaki : Maybe people who are addicted to it will be addicted to it.

Calorie Mate Maple

Saeko Maple has the aroma of "the maple"! I love this smell. I want to smell it forever.



Konzaki The taste itself is simple, though it has a sweet smell. After eating it, there is a slight smoothness, or a western-like taste, on the tongue.


Saeko It feels like plain with a hint of maple. Good for those who are not satisfied with plain.

What is your favorite Calorie Mate?

Konzaki I chose chocolate. On the other hand, I don't like fruits.

Saeko I think I like cheese, maple, and plain, in that order. Fruit is quirky, but I don't hate it.
