Four types of chocolate-flavored beer "chocolate beer" will be sold by Sankt Gallen on January 10, 2019. Actually, chocolate is not used, only the flavor is reproduced, and there is no sweetness.

The base malt used for normal beer is roasted at about 85 degrees Celsius, while the malt used for chocolate beer is roasted at a high temperature of about 160 degrees Celsius. When the malt is on the verge of burning, it has a dark brown color and a cacao-like aroma with a bittersweet flavor.

Of the four types of chocolate beer, "Banana Chocolate Stout" is a limited edition item for 2019. In the process of making wort, which is the base of beer, about 300 kg of bananas, each of which is manually peeled and finely chopped, are put in.

Instead of the chocolate bananas on the street, the image is a higher-grade chocolate banana made from rich chocolate with high cacao. Alcohol is 7%. The capacity is 330 ml and the selling price is 500 yen (excluding tax).

Imperial chocolate stout

The following "Imperial Chocolate Stout" is described as a chocolate cake with a rich flavor. Sold by Sankt Gallen every year for Valentine's Day only. The bubbles are hard and black like a shake. Alcohol is high at 9% and can be aged for 2 years like wine. The selling price is 600 yen for a 330 ml bottle.

"Imperial Chocolate Stout"

Orange chocolate stout

"Orange Chocolate Stout" is based on the image of "Orange", a sweet made by coating orange peel with chocolate. The raw material for marmalade, orange (daidai) orange, is finely chopped together with the skin and simmered for a long time to make jam to condense the flavor. It is fermented according to the wort that is the source of beer. The fruits used are from Kanagawa. The whole skin and fruit are put in, and the bitterness of citrus peel like marmalade remains in the aftertaste. Alcohol 6.5%. The selling price is 500 yen for a 330 ml bottle.

Vanilla chocolate stout

"Vanilla Chocolate Stout" is a rich black beer like espresso with a vanilla scent. A grade vanilla from Papua New Guinea is used without adding any artificial substances. The mouth is sweet and the back is like vanilla chocolate. It is sold all year round, but from January 10th, a limited number of Valentine's labels will appear. Alcohol is 6.5%, and the selling price is 429 yen in a 330 ml bottle.
