KALDI "Nanfar Crab Paste" Recipe
I found the strongest all-purpose seasoning at KALDI, Nanfar Crab Paste (498 yen)! It tastes so good on an emotional level that I just have to give it a try. This is a crab paste finished with a hint of garlic. You can enjoy the crab flavor even with a small amount. It looks bright red like raayu, but it is colored with paprika, so it is not spicy.
Licking it as it is, you can taste the umami of crab! The aroma of the sea spreads in your mouth. The garlic also adds a nice punch.
You can use it on white rice, toast, stir-fry, dressings, condiments for cold yakko, etc. It can really be used for anything. The three ways we especially recommend are crab omelet, crab fried rice, and crab gratin!
Crab
omelette
: Beat two eggs well and pour them into a hot frying pan in a jar, add a few teaspoons of crab paste, and heat while stirring. Form into a shape and it is ready to serve. I recommend that the inside is still a bit semi-cooked.The richness of the thickened egg and the umami of the salty crab will dance in your mouth. The garlic, shrimp, and pepper in the paste add depth to the flavor, so you don't need any other seasonings! You can enjoy the luxury of making the authentic taste of an ethnic restaurant at home.
Crab
Fried Rice
Just add as much crab paste as you like to fried rice stir-fried with salt and pepper, Chinese horse mackerel stock, and other usual ingredients. Crab paste is quite salty, so if you add too much, reduce the amount of salt and other seasonings to adjust the taste. It looks like kimchi fried rice, but it is crab fried rice. It is not spicy. There is only umami.
The moderate saltiness and umami of crab dance in your mouth along with the mildly fried egg. Too delicious to resist!
Crab
au gratin
: Make a gratin with your favorite ingredients and white sauce as usual. Place in a baking dish, top with as much crab paste as you like (a little goes a long way), sprinkle generously with melted cheese, and put in the oven. One bite and your mouth is a sea...! The sweetness of the white sauce, the mild richness of the cheese, and the umami of the garlic-crusted crab all blend together to create a delicious dish that will make you gasp.
I think it goes well with anything from chicken, shrimp, eggplant, and mushrooms. Also, since the crab paste soaks up a lot of oil, it is great with slices of bread or other food while dipping them in the paste.
I thought it was a bit pricey for a seasoning. I thought it would be a bit pricey for a seasoning, but it tastes great even in small amounts, so it lasts quite a while. So I recommend adding a little to your dishes to adjust the flavor. You can enjoy various arrangements with one jar!
